Specialty Pieces
The "Canada" Series
These plates are time consuming to make and as they are all made from the same mold I can only make one at a time. Also, I make these when I have spare time, a rare commodity these days. All the wood in each piece is from the same locality. Each one has a story.

Time-Line Bowls
I only make one or two of these a year. It takes anywhere from six weeks to several months to make one.
The process is interesting as this is a non-traditional way of working with wood. Usually, in most turnings the grain of the wood goes from one side to the other. In the time-line bowl the grain goes from top to bottom. In this case the wood is very unstable and needs careful attention to assure its integrity. To achieve stability in the final product the wood needs to hardened, turned and then hardened again. This series of steps is repeated until the final shape of the bowl is realized. Each of these sets of steps can take a week to ten days to complete.
Making these pieces is labour intensive and the price reflects this. However, the price also includes putting the buyer's story on the bowl. You will notice in the images below that each decade is marked from when the tree was a seedling to when it died. For those who purchase these pieces, I will put on the significant milestones of your family's history which fall within the lifetime of the tree.

"The Time of Our Lives"
Pine & Epoxy 17" Diameter x 2 3/4" Tall Retail Price: $2,400 SKU# 2006015 This piece is a cross section of an old pine tree which died in 2007. As shown on the right, the tree was a seedling in 1882. The decades are marked on the yearly growth rings. The price includes the marking of significant dates (with a short note for each) of a personal or family history, such as births, weddings, birthdays and other events. |
This is another slice of the same tree as "The Time of Our Lives". The tree was 125 years old when it died. The decades are marked on in ten year increments and there is plenty of space for a synopsis of a family tree or distinctive dates in a family history. The story of lives lived can be marked on this bowl and is included in the price.
