"Stick" Vases

Vases are the latest incarnation of Jim's "Stick" pieces.  He is intrigued with the patterns that develop as the number of rings increase.  As the number of rings increase so does the risk.  Sometimes a vase becomes completed because Jim lost his nerve.  In other words, the value of the work already put into the piece is greater than the risk of losing it to a false move or lamination.  Most of the time the wood will tell Jim where to stop.  He ignores this message at his peril!

Below is a sampling of Jim's "stick" vases.  Click on an image to see a larger shot and information about the piece.  Taking your mouse over an image will show more information on the vase.
